Zoning

Zoning is the division of a municipality or township into districts for the purpose of regulating the use of land. These zones are shown on the zoning map. Within each of these districts, the text of the zoning resolution specifies permitted uses, the minimum and maximum size of buildings, the required yards, minimum lot size, and other prerequisites for obtaining permission to develop land. In Licking County, zoning is administered at the township level. All zoning map and resolution changes are submitted to the township first, and then sent to the Licking County Planning Commission for review. The Planning Commission makes a recommendation on the rezoning to the Township Zoning Commission; however, these recommendations are not binding on the townships.
